Do Skunks Dig in Your Lawn?



Food is a basic need for every living organism. In most scenarios, it doesn't matter the struggle someone or something goes through as far as it gets the food. Skunks would do whatever they have to get food even if it means digging the lawns. Since skunks are active during the night, this is the best time for them to look for food. They are aggressive and by that visit gardens and lawns they dig up the turf to look for food. They are among the ambient diggers and dig around anywhere they find themselves especially gardens and lawns in search of food.

Why they dig up lawns.
Like any other animal, looking for food is necessary; skunks must have to look for food to do this they have to dig the lawn where they think they can find food. 

Skunks are known to dig up areas with highly populated with:

  • Insects
  • Larvae
  • Earthworm
These are among the diet that skunks feed on and that they can easily find in the lawn. In lawns where they can find these animals, skunks dig up to find them. Skunk like digging in grassy areas and can dig to around six-inch deep down the soil. They are known to cause serious damage as they completely shatter your lawns and dig out your planted gardens looking for food. Sometimes they can be very nice because they feed on larvae of cut-worms, Japanese beetles, hornworms, and other crop-destroying insects. Skunks are partial to insects; they also feed on leaves, grass, fruits, grains, buds, and garbage. Naturally, their wandering our fields, gardens, lawns and flowerbeds may cause us occasional inconvenience these are minor problems that can be overlooked. They are accurate diggers and act as grub control. They dig little holes and create pseudo cavitation in their search to find food. To find food they can do whatever they want during night time.

Conclusion.
Most of the feeds that a skunk can feed on can easily be found on the lawn. This makes it easy for them to come into your lawn through whatever means. Once they are on your lawn they will do whatever they have to make sure they get the food. This includes digging your lawn to get the food. At the end, they will get food in your lawn (inside/outside) and feed itself.
