Germantown wildlife control Tip of the Month:

What property modifications will keep down bat populations?
Bats. The upside down hanging creatures that look like rats with wings. Highly commended and appreciated for their work in the natural environment. That becomes but secondary when they infest your house. It is extremely rare and unique to find people who have no problem with bats living in their houses.  Of course, it disliked. Bats don't take showers every day! The only animals most humans can bear in their house are cats, dogs, and some birds. Bats pose a health risk. They fill the attic with their urine and feces. Scratch the surrounding structure.  But please don't ignore it, thinking they will go away. Bat has an average lifespan of 25 years give or take. And they keep returning to their previous roosting spot until it poses a threat or they are unable to do so.

Do not harm Bats
The world is survival of the fittest. But that doesn't mean humans should kill all other living beings just because we are at the top of the food chain. If you thought that way. Other "more sensible" people don't. Your train of thoughts just hit the wall. Bats are greatly liked all around the world. They can consume 600 insects per hour. We call them our natural insect control system. For this, they are protected from owning, harming and killing all around the world. Even trapping them requires special permits. Any type of harm done to them can result in a hefty fine.

Build bats out
If your house has bats roosting in it. First of all, separate them from the surroundings and areas with possible contact with humans. You can use wooden boards, plastic, fiberglass padding, etc. Nail or glue it to create a wall like structure that closes them off from you. With this, you and your family will be safe from bat mites, and the diseases bats can transfer to you.

Use exclusion devices
Close-off all the entry and exit points that the bats can use. Install bat exclusion devices on the main holes and gaps. Bat exclusion funnel can be self-made from plastic or metal. It is an instrument that allows the bats to exit once but unable to enter again. Installing these at night is better. At night most of the bats would have already flown out. The will be handled by the device.  Use them before mid-April. That is when bats mate. Otherwise, you might end up with corpses of baby bats.

Bat-proof your house
Now that the bats are out. Time to think about the future. Make it so that something like this never repeats. Repair or change all loose or damaged wooden boards. Fill all gaps and holes with mesh netting, caulking or repair with wood or metal. After cleaning inspect your attic in the morning to locate all spots the light is coming from (holes are located).
